Background information
The puerperium period is a stage after the labor process, in that so many changes happend in personal, family and sexual life in women and her partner, bringing problems like sexual problem, because after the arrive of the baby the style of life in the family and partner life change complety. It is too important consider that is not more a relation between two person, now are three or more person in the relation, so is a dificult situation.
Aims
The aim of this paper is, through a literature review, how it has addressed the sexuality of women at this stage, thinking about the role that professionals, like midwives, have in health education when they are giving advise and intruction for keep health of the mother, father and the baby.
Method
They used literature reviews studies on the subject, analyzing the results of them, in addition to surveys and interviews to woman and partner with and without conflict after they having a baby, in sexual, psychological and social aspects.
Result
The analyzing show the following results:
- The changes in the woman´s genitals after vaginal childbirth with episiotomy, will create fear of pain for have sexual relation, false situation.
- The type of delivery, complications or the presence of men in labor does not affect later sexual enjoyment.
- Conjugal affection decreases when the baby's mother overprotected.
- A good relationship with parents in childhood influences positive effect on sexual interest and enjoyment in childbirth.
- The quality of marital relations and stability three years after birth is directly related to the tenderness and intercourse at four months postpartum.
Conclution
All descriptive studies are focus on sexual activity (penetration), data about sexual feelings and sexual activities are few. This situation is not suitable for studying human sexuality, because it excludes activities such as masturbation, fantasies, dreams, kindness, attitude and initiative on women and their partners. Is for this reason that is too important our role like health professional, especially like midwife, because we have the opportunity to treat individually and entirely private aspects of the relationship in mother, her partner and their baby, and with this providing knowledge focus in physiological, psycho-emotional and social life, we can teach skills and suggest strategies to live more happily and safely this period.
